The love-language framework was named in the early 1990s by Dr Gary Chapman — five ways people tend to prefer giving and receiving love: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch. It caught on because it gave ordinary couples a plain-language way to describe something they already felt but couldn’t say.
Research since then has both confirmed and complicated the model. Most people aren’t one language — they’re a blend, with a primary and a strong second. Preferences also shift with life season: a new baby, a period of grief, or a stretch of long-distance can move the dial in ways nobody expected.
LoveSync doesn’t treat love languages as a personality test that boxes you in. We treat them as a shared vocabulary for a conversation many couples struggle to have — and as one small, honest way to make the whole app feel like it knows you.
